Sarunas Jasikevicius acabó el partido ante el Zalgiris Kaunas, que acabó con una contundente victoria azulgrana por 96-73, con cuatro jugadores entrenados en el baloncesto de entrenamiento azulgrana: Sergi Martínez (22), Michael Caicedo (18), James Nnaji (17) y Rafa Villar (17). El quinto jugador fue el capitán Pierre Oriola (29) en un equipo de campo que respiraba Barcelona por los cuatro costados.
El compromiso de Saras con los jugadores de baloncesto profesionales es fuerte. Desde su llegada en el verano de 2020, el lituano ha debutado con seis jugadores: Papi Brancou, Ibou Badji, Michael Caicedo, Agustín Ubal, Rafa Villar y James Nnaji. Con Sergi Martínez, que ya había debutado en la Liga Endesa, le ofreció la alternativa de la Euroliga el año pasado y lo convirtió en miembro de pleno derecho del primer equipo.
Notablemente Rafa Villar (9/9/2004) y James Nnaji (14/8/2004) se convirtieron, ante el Zalgiris Kaunas, en los jugadores más jóvenes cuando debutaron con el Barça en la Euroliga. Hasta el momento, ese honor lo ha tenido el base Josep Pérez, que jugó su primer partido europeo con el Barça en 2011, con 17 años y cinco meses.
Pero el caso de Rafa Villar es muy concreto. El joven de l’Hospitalet pasó por todas las categorías del Barça entrenando en baloncesto -como Sergi Martínez-: Infantil B, Infantil A, Cadete B, Cadete A, Junior y Barça B antes de llegar al primer equipo.
Villar, pieza clave del campeón júnior de España y vicecampeón de Europa para el curso 2020/21, arrancó la pretemporada con el primer equipo y no olvidará nunca el 26 de noviembre: debut con el primer equipo y hat-trick de forma generalizada celebrado por Palau.
