Barça y Bàsquet Girona han concedido la cesión de James Nnaji al conjunto gerundense hasta el 30 de junio de 2025. El pívot nigeriano de 19 años, que firmó contrato con el Barça hasta el 30 de junio de 2027, jugará la temporada 2024/25 en Fontajau para continuar con tu formación y adquirir experiencia profesional.
Nnaji llegó al Barça durante la temporada 2020, con 16 años, para jugar con el equipo junior y durante cuatro temporadas demostró su capacidad física, además de su aprendizaje. Durante su debut, fue fiel a los partidos del Barça Atlètic y, enseguida, entró en la dinámica del primer equipo.
Sin más alegrías, su debut con el equipo básico se producirá en noviembre de 2021 en un partido de la Euroliga contra el Zalgiris de Kaunas. Actuó en su primer duelo en la Liga Endesa, ante el BAXI Manresa, como protagonista del mejor debut de un menor de 18 años: 10 puntos, 5 rebotes, 5 tiros para una valoración de 19.
Nnaji, en total, ha disputado 130 partidos oficiales con el primer equipo entre Euroliga (51), Liga Endesa (73), Copa del Rey (2), Supercopa (1) y Liga Catalana (3).
